Margaret Malcolm is the principal consultant of Indigo Pearl Consulting, with over 25 years' experience in not-for-profit organisations and local government.

Indigo Pearl also works with a range of experienced associates who share the same values and commitment to working with and for the benefit of the not-for-profit sector.

Margaret has been Chief Executive of voluntary organisations for 15 years, and also has 10 years experience of local government, 5 in community development work and 5 of which was spent working for elected members in a political environment. She has devoted many years to voluntary work, whether through Board membership or active hands-on involvement.

Margaret has a strong commitment to service users, values, quality, accountability, consultation and stakeholder involvement. She puts words into action and interprets them in a meaningful fashion. She is principled and pragmatic and a firm believer in ensuring that strategy and vision are translated into well-grounded services and systems.

Margaret has a degree in Administration & Social Administration from the University of Strathclyde and a Post Graduate Certificate in Public Sector Management from Sheffield Hallam University (in conjunction with the Office for Public Management, London). She has also studied and written a dissertation on Community Work & Social Planning at the National Institute of Social Work.

Within those arenas, Margaret has extensive strategic, HR, fundraising and financial management experience and has managed press and media relations, together with high level and hands on experience of brokering and managing mergers.

Margaret has an excellent working knowledge of local authorities, NHS Trusts, PCTs, government departments, charitable trusts, social enterprises, voluntary sector and their Boards and relevant funding streams.
